Quakers is based around community, we all come together, create our own community and stick together, by helping one another in life, when at a Friends meeting Quaker camp, this really shows, living in the great outdoors for 10 days can make so much differance.
we come together in teams to cook, wash up, clean the toilet facilities, put lamps out, set up the big tent where we eat with the tables, chairs and table condiments.
We also have activities to do, but when we have free time, we are in the community of our friends, talking and socialising, for us, teens and youngers we sometimes make music, singing and playing guitars. singing famous but simple songs.
we also like to sit and think together, this is devotional, the equivilant of meeting. in the tents we can sit together having a laugh.
To get to outings away from the field, we share lifts, so we use less fuel and pollute the earth less. we also have a minibus for teens who dont have parents staying with them, as a way to get around.
Those were all examples of ways of us coming together and acting as a genuine community.
Even if our community only comes together twice a year, we still always are in contact with each other. prehaps in school or a group of people you are with quite a lot, or prehaps hardly ever, try to come to come together, create your community, and try to help create world peace; make yourselves something special.
